[Likewise, he'll wave back and just fall right into step with her. They can keep walking. It's probably better than being idle.]
...you okay? [He hasn't quite figured things out, but he can guess that Evan was important to Steph.]

[He nods at that, stopping like he's unsure if he wants to continue but charging on ahead anyway.]
Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm sort of glad to hear that.

Really. It's an honest answer and probably better than trying to say you're fine. [It's a trustworthy answer is what he means.]
...but I'm still sorry it happened.

Any ideas so far? Everything I've been thinking of seems to kinda stop making sense because of the mechanics here.
Me either. Your game lasted about as long as ours did, didn't it? We were seven weeks, and we didn't learn the full conditions until almost the last one.
So. [HELLO STEPH...] Where do you want me to start?
Anybody ever ask the hosts why they love doing that?
[That's lofty, so give him a moment to think about it.]
Okay. I'm...not really great at school in the first place. And a lot of my teachers never believed me when weird stuff happened that I could never explain. Mortals have a hard time seeing through the Mist, so everything I saw sounded like I was making stuff up. And...well, public schools and especially private schools don't want to deal with troubled kids. It was easier for them to just kick me out when things happened. Six schools in six years, and for the longest time everyone blamed me for not being good enough.

Yeah. [It's clear the yeah is regarding the mist because he doesn't know how to reply to the first part.] It's like this layer that stops mortals from seeing things the way they really are, like monsters or buildings disguised as something else. Stuff like that. Most mortals can't see through it, but some are strong enough that they can.
At least it opens up the options to maybe find a different solution.
[Me: what the hell did I put on his profile.]
Yeah, exactly. I didn't find out why until a couple of years ago but I could see stuff and weird stuff always happened to me like...accidentally blowing stuff up, or dunking my entire class in a shark tank. Also not my fault. But people have said it's because our powers aren't always controlled until we really start training.
