[ she doesn't want to pry too much, but between what he said and the like bus thing, which he immediately followed with "it wasn't my fault" both times
[That's lofty, so give him a moment to think about it.]
Okay. I'm...not really great at school in the first place. And a lot of my teachers never believed me when weird stuff happened that I could never explain. Mortals have a hard time seeing through the Mist, so everything I saw sounded like I was making stuff up. And...well, public schools and especially private schools don't want to deal with troubled kids. It was easier for them to just kick me out when things happened. Six schools in six years, and for the longest time everyone blamed me for not being good enough.
Yeah. [It's clear the yeah is regarding the mist because he doesn't know how to reply to the first part.] It's like this layer that stops mortals from seeing things the way they really are, like monsters or buildings disguised as something else. Stuff like that. Most mortals can't see through it, but some are strong enough that they can.
Yeah, exactly. I didn't find out why until a couple of years ago but I could see stuff and weird stuff always happened to me like...accidentally blowing stuff up, or dunking my entire class in a shark tank. Also not my fault. But people have said it's because our powers aren't always controlled until we really start training.
...yeah. They're helping us back home with the fight against Gaea, but why are you asking? [He's not stupid. He knows why. He just doesn't want to know why.]
Good. [RELIEF. He isn't even close to either of them at his canonpoint, but it's nice to know since they're familiar faces.] We kind of need them back home for something pretty important, so it'd be a little bit of a letdown if they weren't heading back to help the others.
It's...pretty busy. [Haha.] I don't know how much they told you, but we have to kind of stop Gaea from destroying the world before it's too late. And with the doors of the death wide open it makes it harder to keep our enemies down.
Yeah. That's literally what Annabeth and I were doing before we ended up in that town. We were in the elevator heading back up to the surface from Tartarus and instead...that happened.
Yeah, it's how Thanatos enters and exits whenever he wants, but because of everything going on with Gaea they were stuck open so that all of the monsters we killed didn't stay dead.
Tell me about it. [Stupid.] We...were sort of in the elevator riding up to the surface and keeping the doors shut right before we got to the town so. Pretty close.

[ there's a sad note of understanding in her tone as she nods. ]
The Mist?
[ it sounds like a less personal question than the other stuff. ]

So you were seeing all of the mystical stuff, and no one else around you could.

[ there's a pause, as she... considers this information... and what she was previously told. ]
Do you know Nico and Reyna?

Of course they were. [The thing is that this doesn't even surprise him.] ...how'd they do?

... Reyna was killed. Nico made it to the end.

But your dead came back, didn't they?

They did! They're okay.
