[Of course Bats are always use to locking down under what they consider a siege rather than an accident. But fair. He frowns, lowering his lashes as he looks down and stares thoughtfully at the ground.]
I was the Bounty Leader. [His eyes lift again.] My job was to find the Deputy and kill them to end the game. I had to find the other Bounties as well. If the ones chosen to kill didn't do their job, it was our job to kill them.
[He looks up at Dick as if to ask, "What tasks?" too.]
[ he nods at all of this. steph's role is familiar, and jason didn't have any... damian's is what makes him hesitate, despite all three of them wanting to know the details on his role. he hadn't wanted to share for more than one reason, and had been planning to say something different, but... ]
You guys do remember the nature of the ship I was on, right? The tasks changed every week, and a lot of the time they were kept within the "theme". [ like he's not going to tell them outright about needing to teach people about dick pics. that was horrible. but after a beat, he adds: ] It also fell to me to perform an exorcism if a demon happened to be located outside of trial.
[ it's said with no real inflection, face carefully blank. it happened only once, but once was enough. he hadn't planned to share that at all, but whether damian is used to killing or not (and his profile sure seems to imply as much), it doesn't seem fair to let him think he was the only one whose hand was forced in those circumstances. ]
[ ... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what he means there.
stephanie glances between the three of them. even with all the information sharing that's been going on since they woke up on the bus, one of the more obvious things that people have been avoiding sharing are the ones who actually killed here. it doesn't really seem appropriate to ask, even if it was something they were forced to do. ]
[Jesus, good to know some experiences are apparently universal. There's... really not much to say about that, that isn't some variation of "it sucks." But, well. At least there's zero judgement on his face. Sometimes, shanking happens.]
Well... What now? We're not going to get anywhere by sitting around and waiting for the other shoe to drop. We need a game plan.
[As expected, Damian makes a somewhat disgusted, somewhat judgemental face about Dick's tasks. God. He frowns and stares at the ground between them, face all hard lines exactly like someone else the three of them know.]
Search for clues. Talk to the hosts. If they are telling the truth, the faster we assist them, the faster we can leave. If they aren't...
[Well. They already pretty much think people are going to die anyway.]
We don't know yet if anything insidious followed any of us here.
Until we know more about the exact nature of what's happening in this place, Damian's got the right idea. We try to learn as much as we can about both the counselors [ that's not what they call themselves but he does not care ] and the so-called "competition" we're in before the end of the week. After that... we should have more of an idea of how things work, and we can plan accordingly. [ he sighs a bit ] At least half the groups here had to deal with some form of possession. If we're looking into that again...
[ exorcising is just killing in more fancy words, but like, apparently that was not the case for every possession place, so dick decides to not specify. there's a twist to his mouth at what jason says but he doesn't respond to the question as the only bitch in this group who had to deal with it. thanks! it sucked! he knows!!! instead he gladly welcomes the subject change with a nod ]
Yeah. I'm assuming everyone did-- that's another way it's similar to what happened in the castle, isn't it, Steph? Three groups, each with titles and secret abilities?
Pretty much. There, my ability was that I could examine one piece of evidence that was left behind and get information on it. One of my friends knew what time a death occurred, someone else was able to create fake evidence-- that kind of thing. There were a few kinds of healing, another person could die in the place of someone else... a large range, I guess.
[ she sighs. ]
For us, the three groups weren't in any direct competition against each other or anything. We just had to make sure the numbers were even or else we were screwed.
Just because it isn't new, it doesn't suddenly make it okay.
[And at least the people in the town knew what they were doing, smh. Anyway... He frowns, nodding along to what Steph says.]
... Not a competition, but this one is. That implies there's gonna be a winner at the end of the road. And if we're really gonna be expected to kill each other here, the implications aren't exactly great. [Which is, hm, nice to think about. He glances at Steph.] How low did your numbers have to go?
[He frowns heavily, looking sour. His eyes glance between the three of them, but then land on Stephanie for her answer.]
The place with the temple, they talked about competition, too. The people following a leader will win, but so will the leader. What does that mean in the long run? If the leader is trying to get something by using us as pawns.
If it's more than simply a kindergarten relay race to make us behave.
The temple knew they were in competition from the start, and why. The winning party would get a wish granted. They also agreed to participate willingly, since it was ... a dream. It was a pantheon of gods trying to decide who would lead via competition using that group.
[ it feels important to note. it's weird. it's dumb. all these death games are dumb. it's also giving him a moment to not think about how Jason is right that none of this is right!! haha. hateful. ]
Whatever competition this is-- if it is linked to what's going to happen-- is a different ball game entirely.
[ anyway answer the question Steph even tho dick already knows from belph ]
A dream? What, so they had a dream and said yes in it, and then were brought to the contest?
[ seems stupid but okay. but she'll go back to the question. ]
Basically, we ended up with three people left in each faction. If we dipped below those numbers, we were screwed. But when we complete our objectives, we collected ink as rewards for it. Each faction had to collect a certain amount of ink, so if any were slacking we would be... wait for it, screwed.

... I'm admittedly worried about how we're split into groups, since it's similar to our setup. But the problem is not knowing how similar it is.

[It was bad enough when people were blackmailed into it. Let's, hm, not add possession to the mix? Thanks. He rubs his face.]
Let's hope that's where the similarities end. We don't even know who's on what team, anyway.
